hmmmm.... I think that it's lost a lot of its soul when sung in English unfortunately. Plus the guy sounds like the singing is tiring for him ;/ Mika totally owns him. So does Park Hyo Shin.

Mika has sung old Japanese "douyou"s (children's songs, school songs, nursery rhymes) such as "Oborozukiyo" and "Tsuki no sabaku" up to now.
Some time ago, she answered the question... "My favorite song is Akai Kutsu (Red Shoes)"
It's also one of my favorites. Here's an impressive performance...........

RED SHOES (written in 1922, 90 years ago)
Lyrics by Noguchi Ujo
Music by Motoori Nagayo
(Translated by Yamagishi K.)

A pretty little girl with red shoes on has gone overseas
By her side a blue-eyed man from overseas

The pretty little girl has boarded the ship from Yokohama Pier
By her side a blue-eyed man from overseas

The pretty little girl's eyes surely have turned blue by now
From the love of the kind foster parents who live overseas

I always think of the pretty little girl whenever I see red shoes
I always think of the pretty little girl whenever I see a blue-eyed man

===================================================================
I like this "free" translation by Greg Irwin-san...........

Wearing ruby red shoes she did go
A suitcase in her hand
Waiting was the man in a long dark coat
from a foreign land

Foggy Yokohama before dawn
Chilly was the air
With her was the man in a long dark coat
A ship was waiting there

In a foreign land far across the sea
She lives with him there
Now her eyes are blue like the Northern sea
Golden is her hair

Every time I see ruby red shoes
I think of her yet
Every time I see a foreign man
I cannot forget

................................I hope Mika will sing this song someday in the future...Don't say "That's why Mika often wears 'blue-colored' contacts" 8-)
